This is me: Risto Karjalainen. Born in 1963 in a small town in the central Finland. Studied mathematics and engineering in Helsinki, then moved over to the U.S. and studied at the University of Pennsylvania some more. Learned about behavioural finance, game theory, financial econometrics, computers and machine learning. Received a Ph.D. from the Wharton School in 1994. Moved to London. Built a family. Worked as an investment professional ever since. Spent 15 years in London as a quantitative analyst, portfolio manager and partner at institutional asset managers and hedge funds. Moved back to my native Finland in 2009. Spent a few years as a systematic macro portfolio manager. Struck out on my own as a quantitative trader.
